900 years of Diekholzen – A weekend in the Middle Ages

From Thursday, May 29, to Sunday, June 1, 2025, Diekholzen was all about history: to mark the village’s 900th anniversary, the schoolyard and fairground were transformed into a living piece of the Middle Ages.

In “glorious weather”, visitors were treated to a colorful and atmospheric scene: merchants, craftsmen, jugglers, musicians, knights, and Vikings brought the life of centuries past back to life. The smell of freshly baked bread, grilled meat, and sweet mead wafted across the grounds, while the clanging of swords, the laughter of children, and the rhythmic beating of drums could be heard from all corners.

We, the Vereinten Banner e.V., were also there and contributed our part to the medieval hustle and bustle. In our camp, visitors could immerse themselves in the world of historical crafts and camp culture. Many took the opportunity to find out about our club life, meet old acquaintances, or simply have a chat over a cup of mead.

There was plenty to eat and drink: rustic dishes and sweet treats were served in the historical taverns – accompanied, of course, by the obligatory honey wine, without which no market is complete.

The entertainment program left nothing to be desired: fire-eaters and jugglers amazed the crowds, while musicians with bagpipes, drums, and flutes accompanied the market activities. The evening fire shows in particular bathed the square in warm light and lent the festival a magical atmosphere.

The younger visitors were not left out either: children were able to get involved in hands-on activities and small jousting tournaments, do crafts, play games, and experience medieval life in a playful way.

After four days full of life, laughter, and campfire glow, the medieval market came to an end—but the impressions remain. It was a festival that showed how alive history can be when people participate with enthusiasm and passion.

We would like to thank all the organizers, contributors, and visitors who made this anniversary an unforgettable experience.

🎲 Games of yesteryear at Vereinten Bannern e.V. 🏰

An afternoon full of medieval table games at the Beusterhütte

On February 9, 2025, the doors of the Beusterhütte in Diekholzen opened for a special event: Vereinte Banner e.V. invited guests to an afternoon of medieval games. Under the motto “Play like the warriors and maids of yore,” numerous guests gathered—children, parents, club members, and curious onlookers alike.

As soon as they entered, the scent of wood and wax wafted through the room, and lovingly prepared game boards and figures awaited them on the tables. From Qero to Alquerque to Hnefatafl, there was plenty to discover – games that once provided entertainment in castles, taverns, and princely courts.

The old rules were explained by our knowledgeable members, who accompanied the games with great patience and joy. Soon, everyone was eagerly rolling dice, making moves, thinking, and laughing—and many a warrior discovered their new favorite game.

The young people in particular got their money’s worth that afternoon: under guidance, the children were able to make their own little games and try them out right away.

The hours flew by, and before we knew it, the afternoon was drawing to a close. Over warm mead, juice, and pastries, many cheerful conversations were had before the festivities slowly came to an end.

A big thank you goes to all the helpers who made this afternoon possible. It was a wonderful get-together that showed that even without modern technology, you can have a lot of fun with simple means and good companionship.

We are already looking forward to the next get-together—perhaps with a new game or two in tow! 🎲

🍯 Mead tasting at Vereinigte Banner e.V. 🏰

A successful start to 2025

The year 2025 was barely a few days old when the first event took place at the clubhouse of Vereinten Banner e.V. Some of our members brew their own mead in their spare time, so it was the perfect opportunity to taste a colorful selection of different varieties and flavors.

The idea for this special evening came from Klaus and Wiebke, who spontaneously invited everyone to a mead tasting at the clubhouse on January 4, 2025. In a convivial atmosphere, Klaus poured the different types of mead – everything from classic sweet to fruity and spicy. Anyone who liked a particular variety was of course allowed to have a refill. In keeping with the winter season, a warm mead with cherry juice was also served – a real treat!

Wiebke provided delicious snacks and nibbles, which rounded off the tasting wonderfully. The atmosphere was exuberant, with lively conversation, laughter, and of course toasts.

To round off the evening, a drinking game with the rings was on the agenda. Four brave Barienroder competed against each other in a heated contest – much to the delight of the spectators, who cheered them on enthusiastically.

It was not until the early hours of the morning – at 2:30 a.m. to be precise – that we closed our clubhouse and looked back with satisfaction on a thoroughly successful evening.

We are already looking forward to the next event and to spending more convivial hours with you. 🍻
